Mr and Mr Jones is, at its heart, a deeply personal love letter to exploration, adventure, and discovery. Born from disillusionment and fuelled by curiosity, we started this business to reimagine what travel could be—for those who seek the extraordinary, the meaningful, and the deeply personal.
After years navigating the corporate travel world from behind the scenes of large-scale international events, corporate travel for one of South Africa’s most prominent investment banks and leading travel teams responsible for global blue-chip clients, we found ourselves disheartened by the transactional nature of traditional travel agencies and imagined a different kind of service. One that placed the traveller—their time, their tastes, their purpose—at the very centre.
And so, our story began with a simple question: What would happen if travel felt personal again? If service wasn’t just efficient, but thoughtful—if it could anticipate a traveller’s needs before they were spoken aloud? For us, the answer was a quiet revolution in how we design journeys. With every itinerary, we set out to create the kind of experiences that are seamless, intuitive, and deeply human in nature.
From day one, we committed to being always available, always attentive, and unwavering in our dedication to a high-touch approach. From online check-ins and welcome letters to personalised in-room notes with boarding passes and destination information, every detail is handled with the kind of care that quietly says, “You matter.”
We spent over a decade as ‘digital nomads’ (before it was cool), living and running the business across continents, seeking out the hidden, the beautiful, and the quietly extraordinary. We’ve watched storms roll across the Maasai Mara and the great migration, cycled among the ruins of Angkor as saffron-robed monks chanted in the morning light and explored the streets and neighbourhoods of Bangkok. We’ve snorkelled with turtles off the Gili Islands, savoured late lunches in tucked-away Lisbon wine bars, and discovered the towns along the shores of Lake Como. We’ve uncovered artisans in Cape Town, lingered over dinners in Paris where waitstaff sing arias between courses, and meandered through the backstreets of Madrid long after we should have been asleep. From Africa to Asia, Europe, the America’s and beyond, we’ve traced the echoes of old trade routes and the stories of discovery they still carry.
For us, true luxury is the privilege of time. It’s the sense of being seen, heard, and understood. It’s a guest arriving to find a favourite wine in the suite or realising their guide knows their pace without needing to ask. It’s seamlessness, comfort, and care – wherever in the world you might be. All of these experiences shaped our understanding of what travel could be: not just an escape, but a return to the self. Not just an itinerary, but a story. We discovered that the world reveals its most meaningful gifts in the unplanned, the personal, the intimate and we bring this philosophy into every journey we design. We believe in finding beauty off the beaten path, in enriching communities through responsible travel, and in creating journeys that leave our travellers—and the world—better for having taken them.
Our work is shaped by a deep respect for the places we visit and the people our clients will meet.
